Our approach to retaining a sense of the original character and purpose of the Mariendahl Brewery, the Newlands Malthouse and the distillery, all dating back to the mid-to-late 19th century, utilises the route of discovery of the new museum and visitors centre to give expression to the architecture. This was conceptualised as a series of light structural interventions which materially and spatially gently weave their way through the collection of buildings, touching the fabric of the old delicately, yet holding them together. This sophistication extends itself further in the architecture of the two-level parking facility which almost hides itself in the gardens.
